MEET THE MEMBERS OF THE BELGIAN SSL
With several Olympic medalists, Belgium has put itself on the map of the sailing world. Let’s think about the remarkable achievements of Sebbe Godefroid in 1996 and Emma Plasschaert in the latest Olympics. Belgium has three sailing federations which are closely following the latest news and competitions: the Royal Belgian Sailing Federation, Wind-en Watersport Vlaanderen and the Fédération Francophone du Yachting Belge.
In this supportive environment the Belgian SSL team was carefully selected. The Belgian team is made of a unique combination of professional sailors and new young talents. For many members of our team, the SSL Gold Cup is the ideal opportunity to experience an inter national regatta with likeminded experienced sailors.
The SSL Team Belgium is represented by Sebbe Godefroid as Captain of the team and includes Bram Van Der Biest, Pieter Tack, Emma Plasschaert, Sophie Faguet, Tom Pelsmaekers, Toon Van Caneghem, Yannick Lefebvre, and Thomas De Somer.

EMMA PLASSCHAERT
Hello! My name is Emma, and I was born with one foot in the sea! I started racing the optimist when I was 10 and am currently competing for a spot at the 2024 Olympics in the Laser Radial class. I love how the SSL project puts both big boat sailors and dinghy racers in 1 team, learning of each other. When I am not out sailing; you can find me on the beach or in the ocean! On board of the SSL, I am tailor and traveler trimmer.
PIETER TACK
Hi, my name is Pieter and I’m always looking for a new challenge in sport. I’m a multihull and big boat specialist enjoying the complexity of yachting. Besides sailing I enjoy finding the flow in many outdoor activities. On board I perform the task of pitman. Together with the bowman I’m in charge of getting the sails up and down as smooth as possible. I’m also controling the runners which keep the mast upright and correctly trimmed. Communication is key for a happy and fast boat as I’m in the middle between the aft and the front.

Belgium has a strong youth factor. The coastline of 60 km is home to many sailing schools that prepare sailors for competition and pleasure sailing from an early age. The motivation of these young sailors is unstoppable, resulting in successful sailing clubs on the lakes of Belgium. The biggest Belgian youth competitions take place in Nieuwpoort at the Belgian coast. Young sailors from all over the world come here to take part in these regattas.
